Is your loved one in jail?
THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION IS INVESTIGATING
The Treatment of People with Severe Mental Illness
The ACLU of Colorado is investigating the treatment of people with severe mental illness held in county jails pending competency evaluation or restoration. If you or your family member has had this experience in the last three years, please contact:
Emma Mclean-Riggs, Senior Staff Attorney

A note from Kate Rawlinson: We have had multiple loved ones of our caregiver members who have been moved from jails to temporary hospitals to state hospitals. That is mostly a good thing because they are receiving treatment and we are hopeful they will be stabilized, move into Mental Health Transitional Living, or even home when they are stable enough.
But we also know over 400 others are still in jail and not receiving the treatment they deserve. If we can identify who has a loved one who is still in jail, we may be able to help you and your loved one. But we need to gather some information from you: your name, your LO's name, the name of the jail or detention center, how long they were there or, if still in jail, how long they’ve been there, your email, and phone number, so you may be contacted. We will only share this information with the ACLU, which is conducting an investigation into treatment of SMI/SBI in county jails in Colorado. If you would like to discuss this, please contact me at comadmoms@gmail.com.
